DRINK OF THE WEEK: SNAKEBITE
04 February 2011
Tried & Tested
Origin: London, England
Ingredients: Half lager, half cider and a shot of blackcurrent liqueur (or Ribena).
Method: Pour in cider, pour in beer, add blackcurrent.
Alcohol content: Depends on the beer, cider and liqueur used.
Tastes like: You've just had a big night at a packpackers bar and hooked up with a sweet tasting English backpacker, who thankfully, will be leaving the country within two days.
Mate rating: Unless your mates are on board with this one, prepare to get a few strange looks and the odd dead arm. But if your in a backpacker bar then it's more than likely that the entire place will be drinking them also.
Goes with: Staggering into late night backpacker haunts, Walkabout pubs, nights where you've drank so much beer you need a change, or if you feel like getting out of control and possibly being locked up... in a fight.
Doesn’t go with: Anything where you need to be in control. This drink has a reputation for sending people loopy.
Drink Ammo: While in the UK, Bill Clinton was refused the drink while at the Old Bell Tavern in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. The manager of the pub told him, that it's illegal to serve the drink in the UK.
There's many versions of the Snakebite, what's your favourite?
