What kind of woman do men find most desirable in this day and age? Well, according to a poll conducted on men’s lifestyle website AskMen, men are most attracted to working brunette actresses with a baby either at home or on the way!

Today AskMen released the results of its tenth annual, globally-elected Top 99 Most Desirable Women in the World list. Apart from the expected brown-hair sporting actresses, models and er, other noted intellectuals, a whopping 15% of the list have kids.

Most notably from a local viewpoint, Victoria’s Secret Angel Miranda Kerr topped the Aussie contingent at number 5 – a rise of five spots from her place at number 10 in last year’s list. Surprisingly, the coveted top 5 position came in a year in which she spent most of it up the duff with Orlando Bloom’s (presumably evil) spawn. So, does that mean men find fat bellies and swollen ankles sexy?

“I don’t think it’s pregnancy itself that men find desirable, but rather motherhood,” says Jamie Watt, editor of Australian AskMen. “Not that pregnant women can’t be sexy, but I think it’s mostly the idea of motherhood that men find appealing. As we’ve found in previous polls on the site, men these days are very family-focused, so it’s hardly surprising that such a large portion of the women on the list are either mums or mums-to-be.”

Rounding out the Australian representation in this year’s list were Abbie Cornish (#33) and Rose Byrne (#51), both home-grown actresses with big things in front of them in 2011 – they’ll star in Hollywood blockbusters Sucker Punch and X-Men: First Class respectively. Having recently found her star back on the rise with a gig on the Australian X-Factor, Natalie Imbruglia snuck onto the list at #87, and proving that many men the world over have a hero complex, they came to the rescue of wronged woman Rachael Taylor by voting her in at #65. Take that, Matthew Newton!

This year’s 2011 list includes 27 blondes, 70 brunettes and 2 red heads, whilst absent A-List women who were on the 2009 list but missed out this year include Jessica Simpson, Heidi Klum and Megan Gale.
