MOVIE REVIEW: CENTURION
Starring: Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, Olga Kurylenko It’s the year 117AD, which not only means Prince’s Party Like It’s 1999 has yet to really catch on with ancient Britannia’s barbarian population, but that a lone squadron of Roman legionnaires are facing stiff resistance from a warlike race called the Picts.
After the rapey savages pillage his village, the sole survivor, Quintus, hooks up with a stubborn Roman general and his toga-wearing troops who are marching deep into enemy territory to crush the Pict resistance and crucify their gnarly leader. Bad idea.
Ambushed and outnumbered, the legion is slaughtered and their general kidnapped. It’s then up to Quintus and his flagging phalanx to stage a rescue and survive long enough to make it back across the border, all the while being hunted by a vicious pagan warrioress/007 girl (Olga Kurylenko in furs).
Cool flick, but we keep expecting Asterix and Obelix to show up gnawing on a couple of boar haunches with an ale mug of super-strength potion to save the day.
