Off the heels of the brutally blood-soaked Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven comes Mafia II. You play Vito Scaletta, the son of Sicilian immigrants, living in Empire Bay (a made-up city that’s a cross between New York and San Francisco).You comes back from fighting in World War Two to find out that your family is $2,000 in debt (hey, that was a lot of money back in the 1940s). You could help you family’s money problems by getting a real job… but that would make for an incredibly uninteresting video game. Instead, Vito enters the dark and dangerous world of organized crime.  As Vito, you quickly make you way up the murderous Mafia ladder, grabbing more power and cash along the way.

Gamers who played the first Mafia will know the basic outline of the game: you explore a humungous, sprawling city, picking up missions along the way and shooting anybody you don’t particularly like the look of. The last Mafia game was a tribute to all our favourite Mafia movies and TV shows: The Godfather, Goodfellas, Once Upon a Time in America, etc. This latest installment is along the same lines but the developers, 2K Czech, have promised more bloodshed, gore and violence.
